The second step in Naked Angels’ 3-Step Formula for new work development is 1st Mondays. On the first Monday of each month, a new play is given its first public reading. Audiences are invited to attend free of charge and playwrights are able to hear their work performed live. Once a new play is selected, Naked Angels provides a space, director, cast, and brief rehearsal, bringing the play to life for the author and audience alike. A simple yet vital program, 1st Mondays gives the playwright
the essential opportunity to experience their words lifted from the page into a performance setting. This series has read new works by Theresa Rebeck, William Mastrosimone and David Marshall Grant among many others, and brings in over one hundred devoted audience members each month.
In New York, 1st Mondays takes place at The D-Lounge, downstairs at the Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square.
